The U11 Eagles were beaten by Bushey in a low scoring affair to bow out of the 8-a-side competition yesterday evening. Following a 90 minute journey from one corner of Hertfordshire to the other, the Eagles were asked to bat by their hosts, having lost the toss. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals, meaning a big target was always going to be difficult to set. We finally amassed just 225, our lowest score of the season, which would have been 275 had we 'vitally' not lost 10 wickets in our allotted 16 overs. It always felt as if 225 was not going to be enough.
Charlie Waugh who was man of the match batted with great maturity and was the only batsman not to lose a wicket in his 4 overs and he then also excelled with the ball, picking up 4 wickets. Bushey were 204 for 7 wickets at the half way stage, still 21 runs behind, but ultimately their final pairing scored 25 runs in the final 4 overs to seal a deserved victory for the West Herts outfit.
There were notably good Eagles performances from Oliver Millar, who was outstanding behind the stumps, whilst Thomas Appleby bowled well and was also lively in the field, to continue his improvement as a cricketer.
Overall the 8-a-side team can be proud of their achievements in reaching the quarter finals. 3 of this team last night were 'brand new' to cricket just this season and valuable lessons will no doubt have been learnt by all.
On a very positive note, we have had '18 boys' represent BSCC in the Under 11's section in "HJL quarter finals" this week, highlighting the incredible strength in depth we have within our age group.
