The U11 Eagles 8-a-side team 'just about' saw off the challenge of a spirited Sawbridgeworth outfit yesterday evening at Cricketfield Lane. Having lost the toss and sent out to field, The Eagles grabbed 'early control' with Will Joyner taking a wicket in his first ever over of his first match for the team (well done!). Charlie Lingley conceded just 8 runs from his 2 overs, whilst the ever improving Max Mason returned figures of 1 wicket for just 4 runs from his 3 overs. Outstanding effort! Ethan David-Tostevin, also making his debut for the team, bowled quite superbly with figures of 3 wickets for 3 runs from his 2 overs. Sawbridgeworth were thus restricted to just 199, meaning The Eagles were well 'on top' at the half way stage.
The Eagles run chase started promisingly, thanks to Charlie (5) and Will (9), backed up by Max and Fynn O'Donnell, meaning the half way score was 228. Wickets then began to tumble with 9 wickets falling (= a loss of 45 runs), meaning that the home team rather laboured to victory, finishing on 228 to win by 29 runs. However as we said at the end . . "a win is a win". . . . and we know we have plenty to work on in training!
