Finally cricket returned in scorching sunshine and our 2 Under 11 teams served up a midweek thriller at Cricketfield Lane in the 'local derby'.
The Sloggers won the toss and elected to bat, with Kimball Bevington top scoring with 10 and Harry Frans, Oli Atkins and Henry Lowe all chipping in to ensure a respectable target was posted of 254-5.
The Eagles wicket takers were Jack Tumelty, with the first ball of the match, Harry Dodsworth, Thomas Appelby and Luca Livermore. Meanwhile Charlie Lingley bravely continued in the field despite picking up a knock to the knee whilst fielding.
The run chase stuttered somewhat, but man of the match Sam McGinn scored an outstanding 22 to put the Eagles on the road to victory. The Sloggers picked up regular wickets courtesy of Benji Curtis, Daniel Pickup, Kimball and Chris Davis. Barney Anderson bowled his 2 overs very economically.
There were important Eagles contributions from Tom Appelby, Oliver Millar and Toby Ricketts, who struck a boundary from the first ball of the final over to effectively seal the contest. The Eagles finished on 266-6 to win by 12 runs in the 16 overs 'pairs' contest.
Many thanks to Paul Davis (Chris's Dad) for supporting the Sloggers. Thanks to our fantastic scorers, who delivered the neatest scorecard I have ever seen. Thanks also to Olivers Mum Libby for providing ice cold lollies for all - that was a wonderfully generous touch!
