U11s win with much improved display

Rain forced our "Home" fixture to be played at Broxbourne. Despite some angry clouds the Broxbourne microclimate was mostly dry and a great game was edged by "The Sloggers" managing to win by 4 runs! Batting first on a wet and sticky pitch we survived an early wicket and Kieran and Austin followed up their great partnership in a previous match with a similar display today. Runs were hard to come by on a wet outfield but the pair got into their running and Austin ended up with 17 and Kieran carried his bat for 14 (29 of their 31 runs coming in singles!). These runs plus a late flurry from Eddie F left us with 77 from our 20 overs. It looked a good total even if we did not manage to hit a boundary. Broxbourne batted well against some good early bowling and then opened up in the middle overs with their opening batter retiring on 25. However no-one really matched his quality and a much improved bowling display ensured the last 5 overs went for very few runs and we triumphed by a mere 4 runs. Wickets were shared around with Austin and Conrad taking two each and one a piece for Eddie F, Will T and Kimball. There were also a couple of good catches by Lewis behind the stumps who improved significantly once he stopped using his foot to stop the ball and started to use the "Glovey things on his hands!" :) Great team display and really good team spirit. Well done boys. Huge credit to Broxbourne for agreeing to host at very late notice.
