U11s highs and lows against Broxbourne

Bowling first Stortford started well having Broxbourne 11 for 2 at one stage on a low bouncer in a hot and humid Broxbourne. However far too many extras crept in again. Broxbourne only actually scored 56 runs off the bat with 46 extras!!! Again it was byes and no balls which hurt Stortford. Wickets were shared around with Alex (2) and 1 a piece for Ed W, Conran, Daniel, Will T and Kieran. The highlight of our bowling was our catching! 2 great catches by Ed F and Benji and a stunner from Will T who, fielding at cover, literally threw out a hand to a ball that was destined for four and it stuck! Chasing 104 was going to be tough! Much as we had two Achilles Heels when we bowled it was similar with batting. 4 of our top 5 batsmen were bowled by straight balls and 2 batsmen were run out needlessly. Our one beacon of light was Lewis G. He batted straight, sensibly and at times powerfully for a glorious 25 not out. Walking back to applause from both sets of parents and players the word "McDonalds" was heard above the noise of the crowd which perhaps indicates some pleasure from the batman toward a parental incentive well deserved :) Eventually all out half way through the 18th over for 78, the Sloggers have some work to do at training to ensure we cut out the recurring mistakes.
