u11s Sloggers finally got some cricket on a wet seamer in St Margaretsbury. Having lost the toss and being asked to bat we struggled to score in the opening overs until Lewis G (19) came in and was our only batsman to bat with any fluency and power against some varied opposition bowling. Lewis was one of 5 batmen to be caught out as we tried to up the run rate but struggled with timing. That said, Austin (7*) provided some late impetus and 75 is more than we have scored in most 11-a-side games to date. However the opposition had some good batters who used the extra pace of our bowlers to good effect. They were always well ahead of the run rate and taught us a valuable lesson in both running between the wickets and positive hitting of the odd bad ball. There were wickets for Joe (2), Ed F and Will H (1 each) but we leaked almost 30 runs in a four over spell in mid-innings which took the game rapidly away from us. We lost with 3.2 overs to spare however lots of good things to focus on in training and as I continue to remind the boys we're conceding many less runs from extras and we're not getting out bowled to straight balls....so regardless of the result there are definite signs of progress.
