Lots of firsts last night for the 11-a-side league match vs Hertford. First away 11-a-side match. First retired batsman. First win! Bowling first on an artificial wicket the bowling was mixed with wickets shared around (Kimball 2, 1 each for Ed W, Daniel P, Byron, Eddie F and Conran). Hertford only scored 21 runs off the bat. Extras amounted to 58! Yes 58! Part of this was due to fielding being a bit sloppy....balls going through fielders legs, lack of backing up and some panicky throwing! Great things to focus on in training and easily solved.
So we ended up chasing 79 (about 20 more than we should have). Our reply was slow. Lost two early wickets ad struggled to score until Eddie F provided a bit of momentum and then Byron (playing his first 11-a-side game) stole the show. Straight out of the IPL (think Chris Gayle) it was 4 or nothing! 6 fours followed in a great display of power hitting that completely swung the balance of the game. He retired on 25 leaving Will H and Conran to take us home with 3 balls to spare. The celebrations at the end were wild and deserved after two very narrow losses. Well done boys.
