U11 Eagles defeated by just 1 run in 'final ball thriller'

A 'frustrating' defeat.... but Quarter Final place still 'in our hands'
The U11 Eagles crashed to a 1 run defeat against 'nemesis' Broxbourne yesterday evening, however qualification for the Quarter Finals still remains a strong possibility.
Having won the toss, the Eagles bowled and fielded quite superbly, to restrict the visitors to just 85-6 from their 20 overs. Wickets were shared between Ethan DT (2) who bowled with good pace, 1 for OIly Sturrock who really impressed on debut, along with a wicket apiece for Luca, Harry and Sam M.
Max F and Harry then laid the perfect platform for the middle order, leaving The Eagles requiring 24 to win from the final 7 overs (with 9 wickets remaining!). 12 runs were required off the final 18 balls, but alas it was just not 'meant to be', as our batsmen struggled to get the ball 'away' following some extremely tight Broxbourne bowling . Ultimately the fact we scored just 14 runs in a 7 over period up to the final over proved to be decisive. Yes this defeat hurts, I get that.
BUT... The positives that we can take away from this defeat are NUMEROUS:-
1. Our fielding was sensational
2. Our bowling (line and length) was simply first class
3. The 'platform' set by our top order to win this game was perfect
4. The boys can really learn from this defeat at a crucial point of the season. You often learn far more from a defeat than you do a victory. The boys now know exactly what to do next time.
5. We are an amazing group of parents and kids, that play cricket and handle certain situations in the RIGHT way. We do not always see the same 'respect' from our opposition players & parents (enough said), but I am proud that we do not let our standards slip as we are representing Bishops Stortford Cricket Club and also the town as whole. Keep it up.
6. Finally, we are on target to still reach the quarter finals in both the 11-a-side and 8-a-side formats, so let's put this result behind us... as we move to the 'key part' of this exciting first season together.
