U11 Eagles were well beaten on the road against their key rivals Broxbourne on Tuesday evening. The hosts dominated the match from start to finish, in a ruthless display with both bat and ball. Batting first, 'The Eagles' lost wickets at regular intervals, but the 2 shining lights were Krishan, who battled quite brilliantly for his 25 (retired) and Arthur (8), who bravely tried to hold the innings together. A total of 70-9 was unlikely to ever be enough and so it proved. Broxbourne batted with far more patience and more simply put, with a straighter bat, as they defended the good balls and attacked the bad ones. Intelligent cricket from the hosts who were ultimately the deserved winners by 8 wickets. This was despite 2 excellent overs from Luca who was the pick of the bowlers and returned very good figures of 1 wicket for 4 runs. Ciaran also took a difficult late catch, but alas it was too little too late. After the game, the Eagles boys were all visibly disappointed & upset - a true sign of a team that knows that it did not perform at its best, BUT is always striving to improve. We have much to learn, but with this set of outstanding young cricketers, the coach is quite certain that the future remains very very bright indeed.
