WGC 270 for 3 beat BSCC 240 for 9

BSCC won the toss and decided to bowl on a green-top 17 footer pitch!

We bowled well to keep their score to only 231/3 before the last WGC pair walked in. Henry, Ed Cowley and Stabb picked up a wicket each whilst Will, Alicia, Ollie and George also bowled tight. Will was particularly aggresive with one short ball hitting WGC player's hemet! However, our celebrations were short lived as their last pair, Harry and Jamie walked in. Harry was a class above the rest, as he manouvered the ball around the park, hitting a quick 29, which included a big 6 to take his team to a par 270/3.

BSCC were still confident at the half way stage, mainly as they saw Harry keep wicket! Ed Cowley (15) and Henry (7) put on 27 runs, Will (7/1) and George (4) added a further 18 runs, and Alicia (5) and Ollie (-4/2) lost a couple of wickets, but still managed to move the score up to 253/2. So, Ollie and Ed Stabb walked in needing just 18 runs off the last 4 overs - should be straight forward I thought to myself!

But, how wrong was I, specially as Harry gave up his keeping gloves and got ready to bowl! Unfortunately, Ed hit a lovely straight drive onto Caleb's shoes as he was backing up and they took off the bails sharply, so we were on 254/4 with 3 overs to go. Harry then bowled his first delivery and clean bolwed Ed S. He wasn't as pacy as Cameron, but was accurate and moved the ball both off the pitch and in the air! He then cleaned up Caleb off his 4th ball and then again Ed off his 5th ball with our score now reveresing to 244/7 with two more overs to go. Ed and Caleb tried very hard, but did not have an answer to Jamie and Harry, finally ending the BSCC innings at 240/9.

We fought hard, but were undone by a real talent, Harry - that was pretty much the difference between the sides. It would be interesting to see his progress over the next few years and I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches the highest level. On top of that he was still a humble and level-headed young man. Anyway, it was a great learning experience, particularly as more of this level might be coming our way in our next match against Billaricay this Sunday!

Please come and support the team even if you are not selected, as unfortunately this will be our last "competitive" match of 2020 - booooo!
