BSCC team won this game by basically bowling straighter and losing less wickets. Both teams bowled better than they batted - perhaps over cautious at times and missing out on the 1s and 2s.
BSCC batted first with a slightly below par total of 254/4, although, we did only lose 4 wickets. We then bowled straighter and their early batting could not cope well, St Marg ending with 248/7.
St Marg batting was average apart form Benji? in the last pair who hit some big blows at the end, including 2 sixes! He also bowled quick at our last pair.
Caleb kept wicket and did well for a beginner - thanks!
Development points and things we need to work during training:
1. Running between the wickets, as we missed lots of easy singles!
2. Concentration in the field - I realise fielding for long periods can be dull especially if the ball never comes your way, but we need to stay alert and switched on ALL the time please.
3. Making sure capatain's instructions are acted upon promptly and there is no chit chat, but do encourage the bowlers and fielders.
4. Batting with negative mind-set - so far in training we have batted in two modes - fully defensive or fully attacking, however >50% of batting is about taking 1s and 2s, which means pushing or punching the ball into gaps with a positive mind-set. This is what we worked on yesterday at training and will continue with some match scenarios.
FYI, it is against the U11s rules for the team manager to excessively coach, so it is vital that all the players listen to the captain and act upon his/her instructions asap, even when things aren't going well. A note, that I will monitor and base future team selections upon points 2 & 3 above.
Finally, thanks to Charlie for managing and providing feedback.
