BSCC U11s 103/4 beat Broxbourne U11 (86 all out) by 17 runs.

This was the first T20 and 11-a-side format many of our players would NOT have experienced before, but they all adjusted to it well.

BSCC batted first on a perfect cricketing evening - sunshine and a lovely pitch! Shaun (25n.o.) started at a blistering pace again, followed by Daniel (25n.o.) who was the anchor man, to give BSCC a solid foundation. Decent innings by Ossie (16n.o.), Cam (7) and Will (2), plus 16 extras gave us a par score of 103/4 off 20 overs. This was also the first time we'd played on a 17 yard pitch and coped well with the speed and bounce.

FYI, for the first time outdoors we used the odds/evens batting order scheme, i.e. even numbered player replaces another even numbered player when he/she gets out or retires and odd numbered players replace other odd number players etc. In this way there is no fixed batting order and theoretically number 11 could bat before number 4, i.e. everyone is engaged, padded and ready!

Bowling was limited to 2 overs max each and the players that didn't bat, got to bowl first. Ed C opened the spell and bowled a real gem of a delivery hitting the bail directly, which ended up almost half way to the boundary!!! Henry also bowled the other opener with his first ball, when the Brox score was only on 5. Their next two batters built a steady 42 run partnership with one retiring on 28. Cam then broke the partnership with his shear pace and Shaun took 2 more wickets in 2 balls with their score on 56 after 9 overs. The match was finely poised!

Brox batters steadied the ship again and needed 28 runs off the last 6 overs with 5 wicket in hand, before Dex took an incredible 3 wickets in an over to start the Broxbourne batting collapse. Josh finally wrapped up in the 17th over with 2 more wickets, one was a very quick reflec C&B, as they were all bowled out for 86.

This was a real team effort - everyone played well and contributed towards the win. The field positioning and energy is improving game by game, with 4 great catches and lots of backing up in this match. The batting was a little slow in the middle overs, but we kept at it and didn't capitulate like they did. I am seeing our training sessions being transferred to matches which is always good to see!

Well done to all and onward to the next match on the 26th against WGC.
