BSCC 300/3 beat Hoddesdon 285/2 in 8-a-side pairs cricket

It was great to see ALL the "development points" raised in the St Margeratsbury match resolved - well done to all the players!

BSCC lost the toss and were put in to bat. Shaun (18no) and Caleb (16no) then scored 50 runs in their 4 over allocation with an awsome display of positive batting! A quiter period in the middle overs took the score to 268/2 before the final pair walked in. We didn't lose any wickets, which was great, but I feel could've batted more positively taking more 1s and 2s at times. Dan (11/1) and Cam (21) walked in at the end and hit 7 fours between them to finish strongly on 300/3 - a very respectable score indeed. BTW, Cam's strike rate was 233%, as he demolished their quality leg spinner!

In the second half, we had plenty of quality bowling options. Shaun and Henry kept Hodds' first pair to 21 runs, before Alicia bowled the best spell I've seen from her - good length and away swing deliveries of the highest calibre, giving away only 13 runs off her 3 overs. Their final pair walked in with the score on 273/0, so we put our big guns to work, Cam (2o-1w-5r) and Daniel (2o-1w-4r). These boys bowled with some serious pace and aggression against their "best" batters and took a wicket each to keep the score to 278 until the final over. We gave Henry the opportunity to bowl at the death and there was slight pressure when the first two balls went for 7 wides! But, then he got into correct gear finishing with 4 dot balls, keeping Hodds score at 285/2.

The fielding was also very crisp and energetic - I even saw 3 players back up a throw! Caleb stopped many runs behind the stumps, many using his body as a shield - not bad for someone with no keeping experience. I'm sure he'll become a very gritty crickter!

All-in-all I was very pleased with everyones performance and the manner they played. I've already noticed lots of improvements in players and hope this keeps up when we (hopefully!) play more competitive league matches next year.

Bring on the next 20 over and 11-a-side match against our nemesis Broxbourne next Tue!
