The Final

The boys produced a dominant performance especially with the ball to beat Redbourn by 36 runs and take the title. Ed chose to bat first again, to give our fielders time to recover from the heat and tiredness which proved a masterstroke.
We didn't get off the best start with Samuel being caught twice and Toby unluckily run out from a direct hit but recovered to just be past 200 after the first 4 overs. Bertie and Tate batted very well both hitting boundaries but Tate unfortunately played on from his last ball to knock us back a bit. Edward and Archie took the game to the opposition scoring freely with boundaries and twos on both sides of the wicket pushing our score to 267. Matthew then took over with 4 great boundaries supported very well by Griff but 2 late wickets again pushed us back to finish on 281-6 at the close.
Despite the really hot weather and this being our 2nd game of the day all 7 bowlers produced excellent spells of accurate bowling with 9 wickets, all clean bowled, 1 each from Samuel and Toby early on and then 3 for Griff and 2 for Archie as they struggled to attack our slow bowling pair. An excellent run out by Edward and Tate and another bowled from Matthew completed the rout and they finished on 245-10.
The teamwork and spirit of this squad has improved dramatically this year, along with their ability, and they left their best performance to the last to deservedly take the honours. All 8 boys contributed with bat and ball with no weak links.
