U11 V Datchworth

Having been asked to bat first on a lovely Datchworth village green Toby and Tate started positively both hitting boundaries early on but Toby was bowled for 7 and was quickly followed by Matthew and Jack. Tate continued to attack hitting 6 fours and retiring on 30 not out and was supported well by Edward (19). Unfortunately we struggled to keep up the run rate in the last few overs and lost wickets regularly finishing on 96-9 when really we could have made 120+.
For once our bowling let us down as the openers punished deliveries down the leg side but also we were very slow in the field allowing them to take a lot of quick singles and twos. Matthew took an early wicket after a gift of a run out but the opener and No 4 bat both made 30 not out as our wayward bowling continued. Vishal took a late wicket when scores were level but they passed our score with 5 overs to spare.
Two wins and two losses now in the 11-A-Side league leaves us mid table.
