BSCC U11 v St Margaretsbury

In a game dominated by bowlers we fell just 5 runs short of a target of 63 set by the opposition having been put in. Everyone bowled well early on with Matthew Crowther starring as he took 3 wickets in 1 over and finished with 3-9 off his 4 overs. Grif Horrell bowled very tidily taking 2 wickets on his debut conceding 9 runs in 3 overs. Other wicket takers were Sam Harrison, Toby Warnes and Edward Swift with 1 each.
Their total was well within our reach but we failed to take early opportunities for singles and then lost early wickets to a tight bowling attack. Thomas Boylan and Edward Swift batted very well together in the middle and despite a late rally from Toby Warnes we ran out of overs to get the win. In the end they bowled 5 less wides than we did which proved to be the difference.
There were some encouraging signs but we need to work on our ability to hit the ball into gaps and judge quick singles - learning to call YES or NO loudly will help keep the score ticking.
