U12 V Maldon in the Peter Coe

A somewhat understrength Stortford side lost their 100% record this year against a strong Maldon XI over the weekend. We chose to bat first on a gorgeous afternoon and started very confidently with Sam (17) and Zain (27) both hitting a number of boundaries and despite losing Sam who played across a straight ball we were 60-1 inside 10 overs. Unfortunately no other batsman made double figures as they all struggled against some tight bowling and we could only push our total to 104-7 in 25 overs.
For once our bowling let us down badly and a number of full tosses and leg side deliveries allowed their openers to score freely with our only wicket coming from a nicely flighted spinner from Griff and they passed our score with 10 overs to spare. We need to get back to bowling a better line and length if we are to compete in these matches.
