U12s v Chelsmford Girls

The performance of the team yesterday was only matched by the Parents efforts on the Banquet following the game - we had enough food to feed Cricketfield Lane.
We won the toss and batted first and despite unluckily losing Tate to a top edge early on Toby (19) and Matthew took us serenely on to 48 before Toby was caught behind. Edward came in making 27 and added much needed urgency running well and putting away the bad ball for 4 but played across the line to a straight ball to be bowled to be followed by Archie doing the same. Sam H (7) supported Matthew before also being bowled and unfortunately Griff and Robert copied him in the same over giving Eleanor the increase figures of 5 for 4. Ben made a quick 5no while Matthew continued batting strongly and finished on 59no with 6 boundaries allowing us to finish on 139-7 which I thought was a bit under par.
The opening girls looked strong hitting a number of early boundaries despite good bowling from Will, Samuel and Sam but it was Griff who made the breakthrough taking 3 quick wickets, all bowled. Robert then produced a brilliant throw to run out their dangerous opener for a well made 25 which proved the turning point because despite a couple of dropped catches Edward, Robert and Matthew all took wickets clean bowled leaving Archie to take the last wicket thanks to a good catch from Griff and we won by 54 runs. Our fielding was a little ragged at times but we bowled very well under pressure. Thanks to Richard and Sarah for once again officiating and to all the parents for the magnificent spread after the game.
