u12s Sloggers too strong for Knebworth Park

Overall: a very professional performance from a strong B-team line-up against a pretty inexperienced opposition in a beautiful setting.

Batting first, there were strong contributions throughout. After a steady start from Jack and Hayden(on debut), there were some lusty blows struck by the middle order, with Max M, Will T, Byron, Will H and Joe F all finding the boundary regularly. Ed W and Alex B faced the best bowling at the end and kept the score moving nicely.

Only two wickets lost in total, and a huge total of 371 was always going to be challenging for the opposition’s batsmen / girls.

And so it proved, as mainly steady and at times fiery fast bowling from the Sloggers proved too much for the Knebworth batting line-up.

Hayden (3 wickets) and Jack (1 wicket) got us off to an excellent start, Grace bowled a really good line and length for 2 wickets before Joe picked up a couple more in the middle overs. Facing Knebworth’s best batsmen, Ed and Alex kept it pretty tight at the end and picked up two wickets each, helped by some excellent catching.

With some sharp runouts thrown in, the Sloggers took an impressive 13 wickets, leaving the opposition on a total of 192.

A perfect performance? Not quite - improvements can still be made all round, in particular some sloppy fielding, mainly long-barrier malfunctions, cost us 10-15 runs in the field.

But overall, an emphatic victory for the buzzing Bs and shows the strength in depth we have as a club.
