The Under 12 Eagles A team made it "9 wins in 10 matches" to reach the County Quarter Finals on Thursday evening. A large crowd, largely bathed in glorious Hertfordshire summer sunshine, all looked on 'expectantly' as St Margaretsbury were the visitors to Cricketfield Lane.
The away side won the toss and we were therefore put into bat and our game plan was very clear; (1) build a platform and (2) accelerate after half way.
The boys did exactly that; with the score of 50-3 after 10 overs, we then smashed 98 runs in the final 10 overs, to amass a sizeable total of 148-4.
Max Foster (15) and Tom Foden (8) set the nice platform, which was then fully exploited by Luca Livermore (26 not out ret'd), Lewis Greenhill (26 not out ret'd from 13 balls), Ethan Hill (22) and a flamboyant 11 not out from Charlie Waugh, from just 4 balls.
Our bowling attack was led superbly by Olly Sturrock who picked up 2 wickets for 2 runs from 3 fantastic overs. Olly bowled with pace, swing, variety and this was backed up excellently by Austen Greenhill (1 wicket) and Sam McGinn, who both bowled very tidily. Ciaran Wilson's direct hit secured a key run out and Ethan DT bowled with genuine pace.
So with 9 wins out of 10. . . our original "aim" for this season has therefore been 'met' - as we have qualified for the quarter finals.
The boys will need to play to their 'absolute maximum' away at Harpenden on Monday if we are to progress. But if this team show the same hunger, enjoyment, passion and togetherness - all of which were in 'glorious abundance' this evening. - then we will certainly have a chance.
Thanks for your support this evening everyone and let's continue to enjoy the journey.
