Our captain Krish won the toss and the team, in confident mood, decided to bat first and try and set an imposing total. Broxbourne started the bowling well but our openers, Toby and Harry F, held their ground and took the heat off for the rest of our team and set the scoreboard moving along. Both were caught out by balls that kept low and hit the stumps. Their hard work laid the foundations for Conran and Ed Warren to come in and start playing some powerful shots, Broxbourne never really got to grips with our sloping ground and their fielders spent plenty of time racing the ball towards or over the boundary rope.
Conran retired on 25 and with Ed out for 24 and a healthy extras column, the damage was set. Harry B and Ed F gave Broxbourne further fielding practice in the last 5 overs and with a total of 152 at the innings break, the team left the field feeling renewed confidence.
Broxbourne stuttered from the start with an excellent C&B from Tom A removing one of their openers for a duck. Broxbourne seemed to struggle with the 'straight ones' and Tom A bowled their number 3 with Sam taking their other opener with a plumb LBW ball. With 150+ to chase and the scoreboard showing 11 runs after 5 overs, Broxbourne struggled to really chase the Sloggers' total. Toby showed some of his great allround skills by taking one of the 3 C&B's from our bowlers as well as a runout, 2 wickets from Harry B and another from Harry F (the 3rd C&B) meant that only one of the Broxbourne players got into double figures.
With victory looking fairly certain from the 10 over mark, we might have been guilty of a little bit of complacency in the field (assisted by some 'innovative'(!) field placings), but spirits were high and on a warm evening we wrapped up a healthy win.
Thanks to James Fallan for the match report and running the game. Thanks also to Carrie for scoring. Mostly thanks to all the kids for another excellent performance.
