Opportunities for others as Stortford complete victory

Having lost the toss and batted first Sam (26*) and Krish started well by just rotating the strike and moving us forward at 4 / 5 an over to set a platform. Once Krish had departed Toby came in and continued his scintillating form with a quick fire 21 as Sam retired NO after a run a ball 26. Despite a couple of quick wickets and after a slow start, Ed F (23*) and Alex B(17*) gave the innings some late momentum, the former using his feet to good effect to put the pressure back on the opposition team. This was a great opportunity for some of those who have not batted as much this season and Alex and Ed took full advantage. 122 was a good if not imposing total. Again we left lots of runs out there by not pushing the fielders and putting them under pressure. Still need to up the speed of those first runs to make 1s into 2s and 2s into 3s.
In the next innings I asked for intensity in the field and also deliberately stayed scoring on the sidelines (thanks Colin for umpiring) to ensure skipper Sam B and the bowlers took responsibility in the field. For 10 or more overs they did just that. Ed F with the early wicket followed by another direct hit run out for Alex B left Hertford 6-2. Wides crept in (more on that later) but another flurry of wickets meant Hertford were never seriously in the chase. Further wickets were shared with Keiran W-P and Byron talking one each, Sam B with 2 including a great caught and bowled but Toby stole the show with 3 wickets including what I believe was our first LBW of the season! Mentions too for Thomas C and Alex B who both bowled very well without reward and conceded just a run an over from their combined 4 overs. Hertford ended 9 down but again we allowed too many extras. 41 extras in their total of 88. It was again evident that when we think a match is won we take the foot off and for some concentration becomes an issue. We have lost a couple of important matches narrowly this season and these lapses in concentration may be part of that. So, in the end a comfortable win but 33 runs for the last wicket and a lack of focus just took the gloss off what to that point had been a very solid performance.
