There were "4 seasons in 1 day" at Cricketfield Lane as sun became rain, blue sky became grey cloud and the temperature plummeted. However a brave U12 Sloggers B team were not to be deterred, as they secured a thrilling last ball victory. The Eagles won the toss and elected to bat, but ultimately the loss of 12 wickets in this 'pairs format' would prove to be decisive. The 12 Sloggers wickets were picked up by: Chris D (1), Grace (2), Jack T (2), Kieran WP (1), Byron (2), Ed (2) and Will T (2). The Eagles batsmen will certainly have to learn to value their wicket much more highly, if they want to progress. Well done to Oliver A, Luca L and Max F - the only 3 Eagles batsmen not to lose a wicket. A total of 277 was achieved - but this could have been 337 - reduced down due to the costly loss of the 12 wickets.
The Sloggers reply really got going around the half way stage, with Birthday Boy Jack T, Kieran WP, Byron S and Ed W ensuring that no wickets were lost in a crucial 8 over period. It was left to Will T and Thomas C to hang on . .. and the pair did just that. The Eagles needed 3 wickets from the final over and with 2 wickets in the first 3 balls from Olly Sturrock, it was very much "game on". What tension! However Will T remained determined and resolute and deservedly got his Sloggers team over the line, seeing out the final 3 deliveries.
Key areas for improvement: (1) Lose less wickets. A total of 20 wickets fell in the 40 overs. (2) Concentrate more in the field and do not change your fielding position, unless asked to do so.
Overall this was a fun evening and the boys continue to learn, but The Sloggers deservedly took the Monday night spoils.
Thanks to Paul D for his support out in the middle and also to Mark F and Paul T for scoring.
