The way Broxbourne celebrated on winning the toss and choosing to bowl proved prescient! There was little doubt the ball and pitch did more for the bowlers in those first 10 to 15 overs. We did however not help ourselves. Needless run out, missed opportunities to turn 1s into 2s and some soft dismissals allied to some rusty early season batting left us with 82 after 20 Overs. Only Krish, Sam B and William H managed to get out of single figures. It was 15-20 runs less than par. This is not to take anything away from Broxbourne’s bowlers and fielders who were consistently threatening throughout.
Our bowling started well with Ed F taking a wicket third ball. However we generally bowled too short or with insufficient threat. The opposition made the most of any luck they did get and fairly calmly cruised to victory with two overs to spare.
At the end I asked the kids for their reflections and they could see where things can improve. That is the key! We must now use this experience and knowledge and adjust for next time.
