U12 EAGLES SOAR TO 66 RUN BANK HOLIDAY SUCCESS

On an overcast and somewhat humid May Day Bank Holiday Monday, Broxbourne's 'main pitch' was the scene for this HJL U12 Group 1 fixture between Broxbourne's 2nd team and the BSCC U12 Eagles. After winning the toss, Tom Foden had no hesitation in electing to bat and The Eagles started their innings very sensibly indeed. Opener Ciaran Wilson batted with great maturity to retire at 25, as he constantly managed to rotate the strike. This was then backed up by an impressive and quick fire 25 from Lewis Greenhill (also retired). With the score at 66-2 at the half way stage, Charlie Waugh (23) then ensured that an imposing total would be set and his innings included one huge 'six' over deep backward square. The Eagles ended up on 125-6 after their 20 overs, with Luca Livermore and Austen Greenhill adding 20 for the final wicket.
Broxbourne never really looked like reaching their target and any chances of that happening were promptly dismissed by Benji Curtis, who finished with the stunning figures of 4 wickets for 6 runs from his 2 overs. The other 'pick' of the Eagles bowlers was Daniel Pickup, who also finished with impressive figures of 2 wickets for 6 runs (from 2 overs). Broxbourne were ultimately bowled out for just 59 after 16 overs, ensuring a victory for The Eagles by 66 runs.
Whilst this was an impressive victory on paper, the Eagles still have much to improve on if they wish to go 'deeper' in to this competition. Much tougher tests are just around the corner and this team will need to be more focused and more clinical to achieve their goals.
