If we ever wondered if the hard work over the winter was worth it...I think we found out the answer today. First league game, 4 of the first 5 batters retired on our way to 150 off 20 overs!
Away at St Margs and asked to bat first, Krish (25) hit 5 classy fours in little time, Sam B (30) was commanding and hit the season’s first 6 to reach 30. Ed F (26) batted with great maturity and technique hitting several straight driven fours. Thomas A anchored the innings patiently working his way to 25 in the penultimate over leaving Toby and Ed W a few balls to push us up to that magic 150 mark.
150 was always a massive ask for the home side and it took us just 4 balls to strike through the excellent Alex B (2-2). Kieran W-P struck with his first ball of the season closely followed by wickets for Ed F and Sam B. Then came Thomas A “golden arm” with 3 wickets in an over including two wickets with his last two balls leaving him on a hat trick in his next match. At this stage with the opposition 8 down the boys lost a bit of focus and conceded 40 odd runs in a 5 over period, but the game was effectively over and in the end the margin of victory was a remarkable 72 runs!
I’d say the first 30 overs today was the most complete performance I have seen in this age group and I’ve not even mentioned the excellent catching (esp. Ed Fs running catch) great ground fielding and excellent keeping from Krish. A truly great start to the season!
