It was always going to be a tough match for the Vipers against a very strong St Margs side. On a scorching summer morning at home, St Margs won the toss and elected to bat on a flat track.
The Vipers started strongly with Ed F (1) & Harry F (2) knocking over 3 of the top 4 batters in the first 4 overs. St Margs middle order contains some strong batters who were ruthless on any loose balls as they piled on the runs. There was a fightback in the middle overs with 3 wickets in 3 overs from Chris D & a couple of runouts which stemmed the tide, however some loose bowling, too many extras & misfields contributed to St Margs amassing a big score of 153-6.
Ciaran (11) & Harry B (11) fought hard at the top of the order against some excellent bowlers but after fending off the opening bowling pair, we lost 4 crucial wickets in 4 overs & cruel runouts for Ciaran & Ollie crippled our run chase. Ed F muscled 26 & Max hit 12 not out but it was always an uphill battle to chase down the big total. We ended on 108-6 which was an admirable effort from the Vipers against the toughest team in the league. It’s always a great learning experience playing against the best & we can take a lot away from this game.
Thanks Paul D for taking the match and writing up this match report
