u12s get harsh "welcome to the summer league"

u13s Summer League (there is no u12s, so we are playing up a year) began at St Margs last week. Losing the toss and bowling on a great batting strip, the first thing to note was that St Margs opening batters were both about 6ft tall! (as were numbers 3 & 4!).....when it comes to size, what a difference a year makes!
We bowled well initially limiting the oppositions' dominant batters and even took a wicket through Alex B. However we then conceded 52 from 3 overs (4-6) . Some order was restored by Conran, Will H and Austin, however 4 of the first 5 St Margs batters retired after reaching 30! Certainly two of their batters were about as good as I have seen at this or district level. Despite this, there were positives......as well as a good runout the wickets were shared between Ed W, Alex B and Lewis G. However a chase of 192 was never realistic.
With the bat we ensured those who did not bowl much got their opportunity with the bat. Despite a few good overs and a few nice shots for fours, no batter reached double figures with our running between the wickets being especially poor. However well done to Henry L who was brave enough to open when many others did not put themselves forward and Austin and Ed W showed some good resistance at the end of the innings. We were never in the chase but did get to the 19th over and, as harsh as they might be, there will be lessons learnt.

u13s Summer League was always going to be a test for our 2 mixed u12 squads, however St Margs batting line up exceptional and we expect others games to be less one-sided.
