Hoddesdon 110 for 8 beat BSCC 73 all out

With the clouds and rain forecast for later, winning the toss was key - unfortunately BSCC lost it and Hodds put themselves into bat with the sun still shining.

BSCC put their fastest bowlers on, hoping to pick up early wickets on a very green, bumpy and bushy pitch! Cam and Beau bowled the first 5 overs but without taking a wicket - getting the lengths either too long and being driven or too short with the ball comfortably clearing the wickets. Henry and Will bowled in better areas and pace off, with Henry taking the first wicket with the score on 39 in the 10th over. This followed by more bowlers with pace off, with George, Ed C, Rourke, Dexter and Felix picking up a wicket each. Then Ed finished off their innings with class, taking 2 wickets off 3 overs for only 5 runs, although there were plenty of byes again (17 in total!). Hodds managed 110 runs, which were probably 30 too many with the misfields, over-throws, missed run-out chances and extras. We have been working a lot on fielding, so it was dissapointing to see these mistakes, although in their defence, the outfield was rather bumpy!

Anyway, I was confident our strong batting line-up can manage 110 runs - I mean Cam had scored more on his own in the last two matches! But, their bowling was right on the money and the fielding was just amazing. Dexter (0) played a craking cut shot which was plucked out of the sky, quickly followed by Cam's (1) C&B and Eds (4) drive straight to a fielder. Ossie (5), Beau (4) and Felix (1) were then clean bowled soon after as the BSCC's beating heart was ripped out, helped by the fading light, pitch playing up and poor shot selection. However, Ed C (13) and George (17) made the final score somewhat respectable, with the latter wacking a massive 6 over extra cover, to end up with 73 runs all out.

Not long to lick our wounds - next match is against Broxbourne this Friday at home, which we must win to have any chance of making the H&E league finals.
