On the hottest day of the year, BSCC lost the toss and were put into bat - actually BSCC wanted to bat anyway!
BSCC had a wobbly start with Dexter (0), Dan L (8) and Matt (4) getting out early. However, the last match's star Cam (44 n.o.) and Beau (32 n.o.) steadied the ship with awsome stroke play and solid defence. Hockerill bowler Jenson needs a mention, bowling fast and tight with figures of 5 overs, 2 maidens and 12 runs. With the score comfortably above 100 in the 16th over, I decided to retire both Cam & Beau to give the other batsmen a chance. Ollie (14) and George (10) took the mantle and helped a commanding score of 160/5 after 25 overs.
BSCC decided to bowl at least 2 overs from every player, so it was a real team effort. Beau (3o-9r) and Stan M (3o-17r) started tightly and kept the opposition openers quiet. Then George, Will, Matt, Henry, Ollie and Daniel L bowled really well and took a wicket each. Cam (2o-6r-2w) bowled his spell late, but took 2 quick wickets, getting rid of Jenson who looked useful. Hockerill didn't have an answer to the BSCC fire power even with the scorching heat, scoring only 121/7 off 25 overs. Well done to all the players and parents and special thanks to Mark for scoring.
So, that's 2/2 wins in the Brian Taylor cup. FYI, our next match will be against the past winners Saffron Walden on Sunday 18th of JULY at Jobbers, so plenty of time to polish our skills even further.
