After an excellent bowling and fielding display against a strong Saffron Walden side we let ourselves down badly when batting by not doing the basics well. Despite only taking 3 wickets (1 for James, 1 for Alex and 1 run out) I thought we kept them well under control for 20 overs but just lost our way in the last 5 with a few loose deliveries which were punished as they finished on 138-3 in their 25 overs.
Unfortunately their early bowling proved too strong as we lost 3 wickets quickly but James Frans rode his luck to smash 8 boundaries in this 43 runs. Only Sam Chapman also made it to double figures with 13 not out while the rest struggled to cope with their leg spinner who took 5-6 including finishing with a hat trick - this was helped by our batsmen batting and standing out of their ground and being easily stumped by their confident wicket keeper. We must learn to stay in the crease to avoid this happening again.
