Final BTT game is a tight one!

We went into the final BTT game knowing that both sides would finish mid table and both wanted to watch the World Cup final, so there was a clear sense of urgency to get the game in quick, with both sets of players asking more about the WC Final than their own game!

We decided to bat first and whilst we lost an early wicket, we started excellently with Ben Foster scoring a very quick 38 along with Jamie Ward scoring a solid 15. Unfortunately, once we lost both set batsmen to good catches, we continuously lost wickets throughout the rest of our innings, finishing with just 89.

We bowled fantastically at the start of their innings, with Ben Foster and Lucas Dordoy bowling economically and taking early wickets. Ben finished with 3-17 off his 5 overs, and Lucas finished with 3-8 off his 5 overs! However after the great start, Billericay had two excellent partnerships with their opener combining with their No. 8 and 9 to add the required 63 runs they needed. I was happy with th effort, the only slight disappointment was our fielding which wasn’t great, we gave at least 10 away in misfields and dropped 2 chances, both off their opener who scored 36*. On a positive note, there were solid A team debuts for Fraser Swanson, Zac Ziepe and Fraser Hardie, who took a great catch off Lucas Dordoy!

It was an enjoyable game and a good way to finish the BTT. I think the competition has been great for our players development, playing against some very talented individuals and teams. We finished 5th (out of 8) in our group with 3 wins out of 7, however I think we were only really outplayed by the exceptional Maldon. There were 2/3 games where we were missing key players and/or we didn’t quite play as well as we can, which we could’ve won on another day.
