Final over win on Fathers Day!

All on the fathers turned out to watch their sons on fathers in the BTT match at High Roding. We arrived at High Roding in torrential rain only for the sun to come out and stay out for the majority of the game!

We won the toss and chose to bowl. High Roding started the innings well with both openers hitting early boundaries before Paddy Ainsworth-Ledwidge broke the partnership clean bowling one of their openers. High Roding's captain quickly went too with Paddy taking his edge and Charlie Laking taking an excellent catch at slip! Paddy's form continued with him taking 2 more wickets, finishing with 4-21 from his 5 overs. High Roding's other opener batted for most of the innings before some very quick thinking from skipper Ben Foster had him run out for 41. There were also wickets for Charlie Laking, Jamie Ward and TJ Tyndall. High Roding finished with a very decent score of 148-9 from their 25 overs.

149 was always going to be a difficult total but we knew if we got our heads down, it was more than achievable. High Roding's openers both bowled excellently giving our openers very little to hit, with Henry Hawkins falling for 2. We needed a couple of big partnerships to get us close to their score, which we got with Charlie Laking combining with Ben Foster, then Jamie Ward to add over 100 runs between the three of them. Unfortunately just as we were looking favorites, we lost the mainstay of the innings, Charlie Laking, for a phenomenal 73 runs off 68 balls! It meant that Jake Curtis was on strike needing 6 to win off the last over. Jake pushed the first ball into the covers for a quick single, only for the High Roding captain to launch the ball for 4 overthrows meaning we needed just 2 to win off 5 balls. Jake then nonchalantly whipped the next ball through mid-wicket for 4 to complete an excellent win.

The two excellent performances of the day were Paddy with 4 wickets and Charlie with his match-winning 73.

Overall, it was a great performance and a very enjoyable game. I think all the Dad's particularly enjoyed the game too as the opposition manager brought out a round of beers halfway through the match!

A big thanks to Leon 'Trigger Finger' Dordoy for umpiring!
