BSCC v St Margetsbury

A great win for the u12s against St Margetsbury. The opposition won the toss and elected to bat first. They are a very good team with a couple of exceptional opening batsmen, but our bowling was tight and put the batsmen under pressure immediately. Everyone bowled well and Bertie took an important wicket early on to take out one of their opening batsmen. Wickets followed for Matthew, Jake A(3), JP and Noah but everyone bowled really well. Harry was unlucky not to get wickets bowling a great length. Jake S and Dylan tested the batsmen with some tricky flight in their bowling.

Our fielding, as usual, was a weak point with a lot of unnecessary extras but we will keep learning from that, and once we get it right we are a very difficult team to beat. Ossie Bannister stepped in at the last minute to make up the 11, and fielded like a tiger, saving several boundaries. Thank you Ossie, if you hadnt jumped in the result may have been different. A fine catch behind the stumps for Will D was also a fielding highlight.

Chasing 120 on a small pitch it felt we had a great chance to win. Matt and JP opened the batting and got us off to a solid start. Bertie and Will Dommett followed and both tonked it around recording some lovely 6s.
At half way we were a bit short of the run rate but always close enough and Will Hale and Jake A came together to finish off the innings in some style. Will, who captained the side superbly, was as dependable as he always is, scoring quickly to keep the run rate on track and Jake chipped in along the way. With three needed off two balls , Jake A walloped a six off a pretty good ball and we got a well earned win. A massive team effort where all the boys played well. Learnings - tighter fielding and less overthrows, and for once we kept our eye on the scoreboard and the required run rate. Well done boys. A very proud win!!
