Oops

Our rearranged game at Hertford was a shocker from start to finish. On a very wet pitch, we won the toss and, with no idea how the track would play, elected to bowl. Despite over 30 years of experience, this one can be put down to a coaching error...

Hertford cruised to 111-5 from their 20 overs, with only Ben Warman (1-11) doing himself justice with the ball. As for our batting performance, it was a horror show. Jamie Riley and Alex Brown began with aggression and intent, but a disastrous run out after two near misses saw Alex depart, with Joe Burslem and Jamie following shortly afterwards.

Alec hit two fours before playing a poor shot, and Sam followed straight away. Will Price, in his first and possibly only appearance of the season, played sensibly and hit some nice shots, but his 9 was to be top score and we subsided to an embarrassing 53 all out.

In the boys' defence, the pitch became more difficult as the game went on, but despite Hertford's good bowling, very few of the boys played a defensive shot during the entire innings, and we must improve if we are to compete against a decent attack.
