u14s ease past Broxbourne

On a damp and decidedly chilly evening the u14s kicked off the 2024 outdoor season. Skipper Toby won the toss and batted against a Broxbourne B side. Kieran W-P (12) and Tom F (26) gave us a great platform which our middle order then took full advantage of. Sam B was especially fluent making 35 off 25 balls and Lewis G almost retired by making 39. 168 from 20 overs meant we scored exactly 84 from the first and last 10 overs! Learnings - Need to run the first run faster, accelerate in the second half of the innings when we have a good platform and wear spikes!

Broxbourne’s chase did not start well especially after Alex B took wickets with successive balls in his first over. Broxbourne struggled early on against some miserly bowling from Ethan DT, Ed W and Sam B. However Broxbourne had held back some better batters for their middle order and apart from wickets for Ethan H, Sam B and Kieran W-P, we struggled to make many further breakthroughs. Too many no balls, wides and we need to sharpen up the fielding.

A comfortable win by 71 runs in the end. Many spent good time at the crease, lots bowled away a few cobwebs and no one succumbed to hypothermia! Solid start!
