Having been put in to bat, it was an opportunity for the BSCC U14A middle order batsmen to bat in the top order, with Jamie Ward batting very solidly for his 24 runs, including a couple of excellent drives. Harry Pigram was unluckily run out having hit an excellent straight drive of his own. Zac Saunders came in and tried to up the run rate, hitting a couple of boundaries before being well caught for 15. Ben Warren was the star with the bat this week, having performed excellently with the ball so far this year, scoring a fine 40* retired. We lost a few late wickets as Bertie Warnes, Ben Foster and Charlie Laking tried to up the run rate late on, and finished a good score of 153-6 in our 20 overs.
In response, Elizabeth Clune got us off to a great start taking 2 early wickets, as we applied pressure with lots of dot balls. Everyone came on for a bow and all bowled well, with wickets going to Ben Warren, Jamie Ward, Thomas Greenhill and Ben Foster. That included two quality stumpings from Henry Hawkins, who kept excellently throughout. We ended up bowling them out for 46, winning by 107 runs.
Whilst we were the much stronger team, it was good to see the lads take the game seriously and keep a really positive attitude throughout the match. We now look to forward to hosting Broxbourne next Monday.
