Hertford won the toss and put BSCC in to bat on a sunny and warm June evening.
The pitch looked good and the outfield fast, so, James (45 ret) and Henry (40 ret) put on a match winning ~80 run partnership and in good time. Captain Sam (35n.o.) continued the onslaught, with Extras as the fourth highest score of 34. Dan (5) and Matt (4n.o.) ran hard to make sure we ended with another big score of 164/2.
Hertford was halted by Harrison (3o-14r-1w), bowling very straight to get rid of their opener. Then their captain and top scorer from last time, Conway, entered the arena. In response, Sam put on pace bowler James (30-17r-1w). A vicious bouncer flicked Conway's glove, his helmet and then onto Matt's gloves. But credit to him, he walked, even though I wasn't sure if he'd gloved it. Kudos to Conway, as such honesty is very rare!
The second opener, Jaxon, retired on 41 and Harry scored a decent 28, but it wasn't enough. Evan, Henry and Dan bowled well enough, to pick up a wicket each and without the batting depth for Hertford, they came up 22 runs short, finishing at 142/5.
No time to rest, with the second round cup match at Ickleford on Sunday, strong opposition St Margs on Monday, and WGC on Friday, to look forward to.
