BSCC U15 A team beat St Margaretsbury on Thursday evening, chasing down 120 with 5 balls to spare.
The game started late as most my team played each other in the TBSHS v College Derby which only finished at 5.50pm. We agreed to play an 18 over game and bowled first. Our lads were clearly knackered from the previous game and bowled and fielded poorly, and St Margs took advantage by batting very well scoring 119-2 in their 18 overs. Thomas Greenhill took our only wicket with the ball.
In response, we started solidly, with Harry Pigram our mainstay hitting a rapid 43* (retired) off 25 balls including seven 4s and two huge 6s. Austin Osborne also struck the ball well but fell for 18. Every time we looked on top, we kept losing wickets. In the end, we needed 13 off the last 3 overs with only 3 wickets remaining. Just as it got tense, Ben Foster hit a big 6 and then a glorious straight drive for 4 to effectively win us the game. We eventually knocked off the 120 with 5 balls to spare.
A funny moment was when our skipper Ben Warren learned how cricket always finds a way of bringing you back down to earth. Having hit a 100 for TBSHS earlier in the day, Ben top edged the ball into his helmet and it rebounded straight back to the bowler to be caught second ball!
The lads showed good determination to win despite being tired from the previous game. The win made it 4/4 wins in the Herts league. They now look forward to going to WGC next Tuesday.
