On a sunny and hot June day, BSCC U15s won the toss and decided to bat.
Captain Henry (11) and Evan (5) started steadily, but were dismissed by some accurate and lively Ickleford bowling. It was down to Matt (36) and James (51 ret), to counteract the attack and hit some big shots, all around the park. Interestingly, both batters hit 6 boundaries, one six and at 145 strike rate each! Other batters had a go, almost Kamikaze style, and helped push to a par score of 134/8. We knew tight bowling and skilful fielding was needed to have any chance of a win.
One thing we picked during batting was that spinners were difficult to get away. So, Henry opened with Dan (4o-21r-0w) and Harrison (4o-24r-0w), who kept things interesting, but could not break through Ickleford's openers. It was Tom C (4o-20r-3w) who bowled brilliantly to pick up 3 wickets, in combo with James (4o-23r-1w), as they broke the opposition's back. Alex (3o-21r-1w) bowled with control later when the pressure was on, to see Ickleford fall 11 runs short.
Matches are coming thick and fast - away at St Margaretsbury tomorrow, but unfortunately injuries are starting to crop in, with Ollie & Ben out. This was what limited our progress last year, so fingers crossed all our players stay fit!
