U15s v Broxbourne

Our first match of this league season saw us travel to Broxbourne. Will Hale won the toss and decided to bat which isn’t our normal tactic but proved to be a smart choice this evening. A team talk about setting our selves an aggressive target seemed to pay off and the two openers, Matthew Lambert and Damien Dicci scored freely right from the off. There was some magnificent strokes played as they set us up for a big total, both hitting 7 boundaries each before retiring having reached their 40.
Josh Bailey and Jake stepped in when the two openers had retired, Jake also ending up retiring having reached his 40 in less than 6 overs. Josh hung around doggedly to the 19th over but the boys were encouraged to hit out with so many wickets in hand and we lost a couple of wickets near the end. We hit over 150 without losing any wickets which is phenomenal and ended up 163/2 which is a massive target.
Freddie Hickey and James Pickup opened the bowling aggressively and Broxbourne struggled to make any impression on the required run rate. James picked up a wicket early before tripping himself up and having to step off the field for a few minutes to recover. All the bowlers kept the bowling tight and the opposition came up well short with only 95 off their 20 overs. Dylan picked up two wickets and made it difficult for the batsmen with a lot of variation. Fielding was sharp and the team were all in fine form supporting each other. Josh picked up a slight injury making a couple of very brave fielding efforts and everyone played their part in the Broxbourne innings.
A great start to our league season. It bodes well and should give everyone great confidence. Man of the match: Matthew Lambert for his fantastic shot making.
