Boys make light work of home game against Hoddesdon

Following up Sunday's victory against Broxbourne, a changed U15 side wrapped up a comfortable win against our Hoddesdon visitors on Tuesday. Again we asked U14 and U13 players to help the team and again they delivered.

On a bright but chilly evening Hoddesdon chose to bat and as can be the case one batsman can dominate an innings. Left-hander Matt Murray (captain) played an uninhibited innings and was retired 41no (6 fours, 1 six). Our bowlers had little answer to his positive hitting which left the home team staring at a scoreboard of 48 off the first 6 overs.

With their key batsman now watching from the pavilion, our bowlers relaxed and gave very little away and controlled the middle and later overs. None of their remaining players could get a start never mind dominate against excellent line/length bowling of Humza (2 for 9), Fraser-Andrews (0 for 10 off 4), Haddon (1 for 3) and Masden (0 for 7). And Adam Crowther rattled in to pick up a late wicket also.

Good fielding included a very smart run out (well done Luke & George) and a tidy U15 debut behind the sticks by Billy Bays.

The Hoddesdon innings crawled to a conclusion and they finished on 88 for 6.

In our reply ...... copy/paste.

As can be the case one batsman can dominate an innings. Left-hander Joe Burslem (captain) played an uninhibited innings and was retired 42no (6 fours, 1 six).

Facing a wayward opening bowler who bowled a number of wides can be a challenge. He did account for Jack Fraser-Andrews but Joe dealt with him well. As did Luke Smith and Ed Catton who batted with care and were positive in looking for the quick single to keep the scoreboard moving and in support of their captain.

Wides and byes provided a significant contribution to our run chase and we eased to an 8 wicket victory in the 11th over.

The boundary flags are still out there if someone could collect them. Thanks.

This win puts us in a handy position in the league. Our next match is on Monday 6th June away at Hitchin. So please get your availability recorded on the website and keep this winning habit going.
