We won the toss and asked Broxbourne to bat but unfortunately none of our bowlers found a consistent length and were punished severely by a positive perfromance from the first 4 batsmen. Early catches from Euan Thomas off Matt Ealey and Jack Williams did not stem the flow of runs with their No.s 3 and 4 retiring having reached 50. Late wickets for Liam Sumner and Adam Crowther were small consulation as the opposition had rattled up 170.
After 15 balls we were 31-0 with Thomas starting in customary fashion with 5 well struck boundaries supported by Adam Bassingthwaighte. Thomas then played one shot too many and the Broxbourne bowlers tightened up their length which mean we started to struggle with the high run rate and lost wickets cheaply. Sumner and Crowther both hit the ball well scoring 20 each which ensured we achieved maximum batting points ending on 111-7.
We are back to Broxbourne today for the return match and will need to improve our bowling to compete.
