We lost the toss and were asked to bat. Adam Bassingthwaighte (45) and Alec Chappell (40) ran well and put on 82 for the first wicket at 8 an over. The loss of Alec to a poor shot from a long hop signalled a slowing of the over rate and a flurry of wickets and it was left to Ben Warman (14) and Morgan Sewell (15) to give us some impetus at the end as we reached 144-8 at the close. This was some way short of what we should have achieved but was a reasonable effort.
This was a long way from our usual bowling performance as a series of short deliveries and lots of wides gave the home side encouragement. An early wicket for Chris Millns was followed by a dangerous 50 partnership which was broken with a good throw from Jack Williams producing a much needed run out. Ben Warman then took a wicket in his first over, a stumping from Basso, but then lost his line and length his next over.
We secured the win thanks to accurate bowling from Morgan (3-0-8-2) and Chappell (3-0-9-0) and two more runouts. George Lyall unlucky again as another catch went down. 19 wides was far too many at this level and made the scores a lot closer than it should have been.
