Having won the toss on a bright sunny day our boys put the opposition in to face the opening attack of Paul Reed and Austin Sewell. Wickets started tumbling and our attacking fields started to pay off. Ampthill were bowled out for 139 in 40 overs. The pick of the bowlers were Paul Reed and Andrew O'Donovan who both took 4 wickets each but were supported well by Austin Sewell and Mark Dodshon. The two's have now bowled out the opposition in all three games they have played, which is very promising and it will be vital to continue this form if they are to be there at the top of the table come the end of the season.
In reply, The Cricketfield Lane side got off to a good solid start with openers Stuart Felstead and Tommy Burslem adding 60 for the first wicket. Tommy went on to score an impressive 74 before being caught behind and Bishops Stortford cruised to a 6 wicket victory with 12 overs to spare. That puts the 2nd XI joint top of the table on 110 points.
They travel to Sandridge (north of St. Albans) on Sat 7th to meet their next opposition. With availability depleted in the first and second teams this week, it will be a tough game against a good side.
