Bishop Stortford Under 11 Girls had a very busy weekend of cricket over the Bank Holiday with over 40 girls between 7 and 11 playing 135 overs of cricket on Sunday and Monday.
The highlight was the first league game of the season against Hitchin Under 11 Girls. Hitchin batted first and Adele Eames bowled a maiden first over to set the tone for the team. Hitchin scored slowly thanks to good work in the field by Bishops Stortford, but Hitchin did only lose three wickets and finished with a score of 268/3. Bowling highlights included a tight three overs for only five runs by Niamh Goldsmith, a wicket for Eliza Argent and a standout bowling performance Adele Eames of three overs, two wickets and only three runs.
Bishops Stortford batted very positively in reply with first pair Eliza Argent and Daisy Braud setting the tone by running several twos and threes and putting pressure on the fielders. Later pairs then push comfortably passed the target with some excellent boundary hitting by Adele Eames, Ria Shah, Ella Rubidge and Captain Poppy Mackay. Hitchin’s bowlers took late wickets but Estella Sisson’s and Poppy Mackay batted out the final overs against Hitchin’s strongest bowlers safely taking the team to 326/2 and a good first win for the season.
