Home game against Letchworth - league game

Captain today was Esme. It was touch and go as to whether or not we played today due to a very soggy pitch. However, with the sun trying to break through we decided better to play than have yet another game cancelled!

We batted first. Amelie and Georgie getting us off to a very positive start. Good calling and pinching of quick singles as the oppo were fielding too deep. Then Freya and Esme came in hitting some glorious fours to the boundary. Style and power were on show here. Esme with a very stylish clip off her legs to the square leg boundary and Freya hitting the ball very hard to the mid on boundary! Then came Evie and Laila continuing with their positivity. Laila showing us all how to hit a pull shot for four, not once but twice!! And then to round all of that off a masterclass from Marnie at the end on how to clip the ball stylishly off your legs to the backward square leg boundary 3 times! Bravo!! It was a lovely display of batting. At Fridays training we worked on these shots specifically and with a focus on trying to introduce more power. It seems to have paid off! So a very respectable score of 284 to defend.

Then came our bowling. Freya in particular having a great game with the ball with figures of 3 overs, 2 wickets for only 3 runs!! But it doesn’t stop there… Laila bowled very tight with figures of 3 overs 2 wickets for 7 runs and Esme and Amelie bowling very economically as well!

We had two super catches from Freya and Laila. We worked long and hard on Friday at training with our catching of a hardball. Using the right technique and not being afraid of it. Again it seems to have paid off today as the girls displayed confidence in catching the hardball!

The fielding was tight throughout stopping any singles, backing up and always encouraging each other as they do in every match.

Special mention to our players player of the match Laila who had a great game with the bat, ball and her fielding. Well deserved!

Well done to all of the girls. A thoroughly impressive all round performance to get the win. That (should) take us to the top of the league! ?
