The first game of two on Sunday for the U11 girls and after winning the toss we were fielding first.
Florence MacKenzie and Scarlett got the bowling off to a good start with an excellent first wicket taken by Florence. Flo McB and Grace followed up nicely. Taking a wicket each. Elsie showed great determination as wicket keeper, despite a bit of a hard ball landing on her foot. Lovely accurate bowling from Evie and Mattie kept the opposition run score down, another nice wicket taken by Mattie depleting their score further. Newcomer Arya arrived just in time to bowl her two overs with Grace. Arya bowled really well and shows great promise if that was her first ever game! Grace took another wicket so the opposition finished on 248 for 5.
The girls all looked confident as they each went out to bat but the opposition were quite little and so the balls were slightly tough to get a decent shot at some big runs. Lots of wides and no balls but the girls did some great communicating in their pairs and made use of the wides and byes to get some sneaky 1s and 2s in. Only lost four wickets and finished on 297 for 4. A very commanding win I’d say!
Many thanks to Al MacKenzie for being score buddy and keeping that on track and to Alisha for giving up her Sunday to umpire, not just this game but the following one as well.
Player of the match – Elsie for a really solid performance as wicket keeper. She stopped some strong fast balls and kept going, despite a hard wallop to her foot!
