Finally the temperature rose above freezing and the sun shone on the U11 Girls! BSCC won the toss and fielded against a newly established but competitive Redbourn team. Immediately Redbourn got off to a strong start as they opened with their strongest batter. Thankfully Evie (1-12) was able to peg them back with some excellent bowling and a deserved wicket. The Stortford bowling and fielding was then able to keep Redbourn in check with an excellent catch and good bowling from Mattie (1-11). Just when Stortford thought they might be able to restrict Redbourn to a lower score another strong Redbourn batter scored 18 critical runs to post a strong score of 291-4.
In reply Evie got us off to a strong start with an excellent 16 no and we were on track to overtake the desired total, but then losing wickets at key times slowed progress, until final pair of Grace and Florence eased the total towards a winning score, but a wicket made the task more difficult, and Grace couldn't score the 4 needed to tie the game.
Both sides showed great spirit and enthusiasm, and it was an excellent game for all. Lots of positives for the girls and also everyone can reflect where those 4/5 runs might have been saved or scored.
Player of the match Evie Chidgey.
