Another convincing win for BSCC U19s!

Following last weeks first group game to Copford where we convincingly won, having bowled them out for 85 and chasing it in 12 overs, we played West Bergholt on the bottom pitch today.

We won the toss and batted first, with Ben Cowper and Benjy Furrer getting us off to a good start. Cowps was caught for 16 but Benjy drove on for an excellent quick fire 36, including one big straight six. Murray Davidson (usual opener but batted No.3 as he was late…) really struggled early on and was 19 off 29 balls at one point in his innings. However, that all changed when he hit his 30th ball for 6 over long off, as he proceeded to smash 67 off his next 20 balls! That meant he finished 86* from 49 balls including 5 massive sixes! Murray was very ably supported by an equally impressive 59 off 33 balls from skipper Harry Olorenshaw, who continued his superb form, hitting boundaries all over the ground with sublime wrist work. Murray’s late hitting was summed up by his 41 partnership with Will Cutlan-Smyth in which Will scored 1* off 1 ball!
It meant we finished 217-1 in our 20 overs which was a massive score against a reasonable attack in wet conditions.

In response, they got off to a mini flyer before Max removed their openers off stump with a beauty. After that, Max and Sam Robinson went on to take 3 and 2 wickets respectively as West Bergholt tried to keep up with the required run rate. Two of Max’s wickets were thanks to great catches, one from Will Cutlan-Smyth and the other to a fantastic diving effort from Will Lambert. Lambo then came on himself and was arguably the pick of the bowlers today bowling 4 overs, 2 wickets for 8 runs! Kieran Surujbally (2 wickets) and Aidan Murphy (1) came on and cleaned up the tail to complete the excellent all round performance.

Across the first 3 U17 and U19 games, we’ve now batted phenomenally in all 3, bowled well in all 3 and for the first time this year, we fielded excellently today, which was great to see.

We now have a couple of weeks off before the U17/U19s group stages continue!
